Prem volunteered with a rural mission hospital on the Nepal-India border for two years, an experience which taught him the fatal flaw of rural income generation projects: producers are constrained to sell their products in rural or semi-urban markets, where they do not get good prices. In response, Prem started Unifield to be a bridge between social entrepreneurs making a difference in rural areas, and urban consumers who want to be part of social change while buying trustworthy products at affordable prices. Unifield is a retail market with a growing range of products and customers across Bangalore. Prem connects with experts who are living in proximity to rural producers, giving his customers the unique opportunity to directly interact with farmers. He lives in Bangalore with his wife and two children.
